The National Nursing Home Experience Survey

The National Nursing Home Experience Survey is the first national survey asking nursing home residents and their relatives or friends about their experiences of nursing home care in Ireland. The survey aims to learn from and understand these experiences in order to improve the care provided in Irish nursing homes.

What questions are asked?

Two questionnaires have been developed: one to capture the experiences of nursing home residents (which contains 54 questions), and one to capture the experiences of family members or friends (containing 49 questions).

The Survey timeline

The timeline below describes the important phases in the implementation of the National Nursing Home Experience Survey.

Eligible participants are informed of the survey

The selected nursing homes are informed about the survey. Residents of these nursing homes and their family members are notified that they will be invited to take part in the survey.

Interviews are held with nursing home residents and postal surveys are sent to family members or friends.

Survey closes and results are analysed

The results are then analysed and the reports are prepared for publication.
