National Inpatient Experience Survey achievements 2018

There have been numerous quality improvement initiatives implemented in Irish hospitals based on the findings from the 2017 and 2018 surveys. At the National Inpatient Experience Survey conference 2019, three hospitals and one hospital group were awarded achievements in patient experience improvements including Ennis Hospital, the Mater Misericordiae, Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital and Saolta University Hospital Care Group. Representatives from each hospital and hospital group presented on the quality improvement initiatives that led to these improvements at the conference.

Ennis Hospital

Ennis hospital received an achievement for best overall experience at hospital level. It received the highest rating of the participating hospitals for best overall experience: 9.2 out of 10. Click here to read the Ennis Hospital Presentation 2019.

Saolta University Health Care Group

Saolta University Health Care Group received best overall experience of a hospital group. It received the highest overall experience rating in both 2017 and 2018, with 8.3 out of 10 in both years. Click here to read the Saolta Group presentation.

While many hospitals implemented quality improvements between 2017 and 2018, the Mater Misericordiae received most improved hospital 2018. The Mater was the only hospital to improve across all areas including the admission process, care on the ward, examinations, discharge and overall experience. Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital

Kilcreene Regional Orthopaedic Hospital received an achievement for best discharge and transfer as it has consistently performed strongly in this area across both years of the survey. Kilcreene’s average rating for discharge was 8.7 out of 10, significantly above the national average of 6.9 out of 10. Click here to read the Kilcreene hospital presentation.
