Findings of women’s experiences of care outside of hospital

Further research was carried out on the 2020 National Maternity Experience Survey to identify women’s experience of care provided outside of hospital by general practitioners (GPs), practice nurses and midwives. A full report describing the findings are available below.

National Maternity Experience Survey

The National Maternity Experience Survey offers eligible new mothers the opportunity to share their experiences of Ireland’s maternity services — from antenatal to postnatal care — in order to improve the safety and quality of care provided to women and their babies. The first National Maternity Experience Survey took place in October and November 2019. The results are now live.

Timeline

The timeline below describes the five most important phases in the National Maternity Experience Survey cycle in 2019 and 2020.

October and November 2019

Eligibility period

Women aged 16 or older who gave birth in October (or November) 2019 were eligible to participate.

 

Participating maternity units

Survey went live

All eligible women were contacted by post in February or March 2020 and received information on the survey and a link to the online survey.

Online and paper survey
30 April 2020

Survey closed

The survey closed on 30 April 2020. The results were then analysed and the reports prepared for publication.
