The National Care Experience Programme has announced that text invitations calling for participation in Ireland’s National Inpatient Experience Survey will be sent from today.
The National Inpatient Experience Survey is a nationwide programme of engagement spanning 40 public hospitals from six HSE Health Regions. The survey will invite people who have spent 24 hours or more in a public hospital during the month of May 2026 to share their care experiences. Findings from previous iterations of this survey were used to inform improvements to the quality and safety of care provided in public acute hospitals.
From today and throughout June and July 2026, eligible participants will receive a text message from CareSurvey, a trusted sender, inviting them to complete the survey through a secure link. Anyone who is unsure of the safety of the link received through text message is encouraged to contact the National Care Experience Programme, via our helpline or email. People can call the Freephone service 1800 314 093 (Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm) or email info@yourexperience.ie.
The survey includes 53 questions covering every aspect of inpatient care, including admission to hospital, the ward environment, care and treatment, interaction with staff and discharge from hospital. Results from the survey will be used to improve care by identifying what is working well and where improvements are necessary.
Since 2017, over 66,000 people have taken part in the National Inpatient Experience Survey. Feedback gathered from past surveys has directly informed quality improvement initiatives across local and national levels to improve the experience of hospital care.
All survey responses will be anonymised, analysed, and compiled into a national report detailing the quality of inpatient care. The final report will be published in late 2026 and made available to the public on www.yourexperience.ie.
