Engagement with hospital staff, midwives, women and their partners is vital to ensure the success of the National Maternity Experience Survey. On this page you can download guides, information and promotional material.

The National Maternity Experience Survey is a nationwide survey that invites women who have recently given birth, to share their experiences of maternity care.
The goal of the survey is to learn from women’s experiences to improve the safety and quality of Ireland’s maternity services.
Women aged 16 or over who give birth in February or March 2025 will be invited to participate.
Eligible new mothers will receive a personalised text message three months after giving birth, inviting them to take the survey online.
Research consistently shows that care experience surveys help identify best practices and areas for improvement.
Studies have demonstrated that improvements in patient experience lead to higher staff satisfaction and enhanced safety and wellbeing of women using maternity services.
Healthcare staff in primary, acute and community care play a key role in raising awareness of the survey and encouraging patients to participate. The more people who take part, the more comprehensible and reliable the results will be in reflecting the full range of women’s maternity care experiences.
Women may have questions about the survey, and we would appreciate your support in addressing these, where possible. If you are unable to answer a specific query, please refer them to the National Maternity Experience Survey promotional material, website, Freephone number or email address. These details are provided on all promotional material and listed below.
The Director of Midwifery in each hospital has been appointed as the key contact for the National Maternity Experience Survey. They will provide you and your colleagues with information about how the survey will be promoted in your hospital.
