Thank you to everyone who participated in Ireland’s first ever National Maternity Experience Survey. Almost 3,200 women took part; a huge response rate of 50% which demonstrates the desire of new mothers to have their say on their experiences of maternity care in Ireland.

The survey asked new mothers about their experiences of Ireland’s maternity services and the feedback will be used to improve services, making them safer and better for new mothers and their babies. The thousands of responses will be used to improve maternity services in Ireland.

HIQA’s Rachel Flynn said: ‘With thousands of babies born in Ireland every year, it is important that services remain responsive to the needs of women. Only through listening and learning from these women’s experiences can effective and sustainable changes be made to Ireland’s maternity services, and put women and their babies at the centre of maternity care.’

The full results of the survey will be published in autumn 2020 on www.yourexperience.ie
