Back indicator About the survey

The steps undertaken to develop the National Cancer Care Experience Survey questionnaire were:

  1. An international review of cancer care experience surveys identified the international best practice with regards to the questionnaires and methodologies employed to deliver a national cancer care survey.
  2. Focus groups; gathered insights and perspectives from people with lived experience of cancer care, health service professionals, support organisations, regulators, policy-makers, and representatives of special interest groups. This helped to identify key topics in cancer care.
  3. A gap analysis ensured that all aspects of care from the Irish perspective were captured.
  4. A Delphi Study is a survey that asked stakeholders on two different occasions, to review the proposed list of questions and to identify their priority questions for inclusion.
  5. The final list of priority questions was reviewed by Picker Institute Europe to provide their expert insights into the analytical quality and clarity of the questions.
  6. Cognitive interviews were then conducted with people with lived experiences of cancer care. This helped us to understand how potential survey participants interpret the questions.
  7. The final draft of questions was brought to the NCCES Advisory Group for their expert input and suggestions.
  8. The final questionnaire will be presented to the NCEP Steering Group for approval in October 2025.
